Teach Yourself Any Accent

Service Description

This will be a two hour workshop. With a lecture section at the beginning and practical applications for the majority of the class. - This is not dialect training - This workshop is for building confidence and trying out something new. You will not be judged for being bad or leaning into accent archetypes to help with slipping into the accent, as this is a place to learn and improve. Nobody is perfect at an accent right away. We will never cover any accents attached to a specific ethnicity, as this class is for diverse groups, we'll be covering generally socially acceptable accents that are okay for everyone involved. If anyone has any issues at all, with any particular accent, for any reason, please let me know before or during class, and we will not attempt that accent. The comfort and safety of students is my top priority, and I want you to feel you can speak up. This workshop will never be recorded for any reason. Content: - Overview of the content - Brief warm-ups / icebreaker - How to teach yourself any accent - How to practice using accents - Confidence building techniques - Group improvisation using a series of different accents (you do not have to be good at it, this is a place to learn) - General Q&A Sarah will go over several techniques commonly used to learn accents, including ones they used themselves to teach themselves 10+ accents to a working standard, please note that as everyone is different, so it's good to cover a lot of techniques, and you can drop the ones you don't personally vibe with. Remember, accents take time to learn and perfect, and you have to keep at it. Checking it sounds authentic with native speakers when possible too. But getting started and having the confidence to practice in front of others is a good first step! (Even if we're crap to begin with)
